WHY CHOOSE US

  • Does Mike Pay Cash?
It depends on the amount. For smaller amounts, yes.
I will pay more significant amounts with a business check, PayPal, Zelle, or cashier's check. If we have done business before and you prefer cash for a more substantial amount, I will accommodate you.

  • Can I FedX my Jewelry to Mike?
    Yes.
Please get in touch with me, and I will email you an insured FedEx label that you can print and take to the nearest FedEx office or FedEx ship center. Always be sure to double box your items for my insurance to be valid. You can use free FedEx express boxes available at all FedEx facilities.

  • Can Mike come to me?
Yes, I can come to you if preferred.
First, we will discuss your items via phone or text. If I decide I want to buy them, I will come to your home, business, or other location of your choosing. I cannot travel very far from Northbrook, IL unless you have higher-value items to sell. Also, note that we must meet at my office to examine and grade your stone correctly when selling a larger diamond. I will always try to accommodate those customers who cannot travel or prefer to meet locally.

  • SELLING GOLD FAQs

  • Is All Gold Jewelry Bought for Scrap Price Only?
No! Better items are priced higher.
One thing that separates Cook County Buyers from typical gold buyers is I pay higher for better items. Here are some examples of items that could be worth more than scrap price:
  • ● In-style rings with gemstones and or diamonds
  • ● Lightweight gold chains, earrings, and rings.
  • ● Designer signed jewelry such as Tiffany, Yurman, and Cartier.
  • ● Vintage and antique jewelry.

  • Are Gold and Silver Coins Worth More Than scrap price?
Yes! I always pay at least 90% of the market value for coins and bars.
Much of the gold jewelry I buy is considered scrap and purchased at 75% of the market value. However, gold, platinum, and silver coins and bars are already pure metal and do not need refining. Therefore I can always pay more. Higher demand items such as American Eagles and Canadian Maples can bring as much as 100% of the market value and even over market value depending on the current market demand!

  • Will I get to Work Directly With The Owner, Mike?
    Yes.
This business is owned and operated by me, Mike J. I have no employees, which keeps my overhead costs as low as possible. It is for this reason that I can pay more than most other buyers. When you meet with the business owner instead of an employee, you will receive the best service possible.

  • Will My Items be Inspected in Front of Me?
Yes, the whole meeting happens right at my desk in front of you!
When you meet with me to sell your items, you will enjoy complete transparency during our meeting. Your gold or diamonds are tested and weighed at my desk right in front of you. I will always treat you with respect, and I promise you will have fun too! I will explain what I am doing, show you the current market price, and explain how I calculated my offer.

  • How Soon Can I Meet With Mike? Are Walk-Ins Available?
Same Day appointments are usually available, but no walk-ins.
Call or text me anytime to discuss your items for sale. Once I have given you a price estimate, and you agree, I can usually meet that same day! Sometimes when you call or text, I may even be at my office and tell you to come by. But usually, I am only there for appointments, and then I leave. If you show up at my office, I will not be there so, please call or text first. I do live nearby and can usually meet very quickly.

  • How Reputable is Cook County Buyers?
Cook County Buyers is a very reputable business with an A+ rating on the BBB and Hundreds of 5-star reviews.
I have been a Better Business Bureau accredited business since I incorporated in 2011. Since that time, I have had zero complaints and only positive reviews on all sites. You can read over 100 5-star reviews on Google and check out reviews on Yelp and Facebook.

  • What's the Difference between 9k, 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k?
Each of these karats refers to a different purity level of gold jewelry.
9k gold is the lowest typically seen, while 24k gold (pure gold) is the highest. You can always calculate the purity by dividing the karat number into 24. The higher the purity, the more your gold is worth! Below is the breakdown:
  • ● 9k is 37.5% pure (9÷24=.375)
  • ● 10k is 41.7% pure (10÷24=.417)
  • ● 14k is 58.3% pure (14÷24=.583)
  • ● 18k is 75% pure (18÷24=.75)
  • ● 22k is 91.6% pure (22÷24=.916)
  • ● 24k is 100% pure (24÷24=1)
